Quote of the Day:America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between.
- Oscar Wilde.
It always amazes me just how profound most famous quotes are, although I guess that is the reason that they are quoted. But it makes me sad to think that all the eloquence has gone out of the English language. I don't really understand why this is. I expect it has something to do with a more modern age where information is a commodity and so needs to be passed on quickly and effortlessly. Either that or we've all just become lazy. I know that I've never said anything in my life that was worth quoting. In part I blame all the Americanisms around today, although I expect it is all too easy to blame them and that part of the blame lies here in the home of the English language, England.
Anyway, moving on... Once again I find myself with another huge gap in between posts, I apologise to my huge fan base. I will try and update a little more regularly. I have been fairly busy recently though, with many a fun essay to do last weekend, with very little notice I might add. Bah! That is teachers for you. While on the subject of teachers one of my friends mums asked me what I wanted to do if (she actually said 'when', but I'd rather not tempt fate) I come out of university, and she wondered whether I'd become a teacher. To tell you the truth I'd rather not become a teacher, just because I know how we treated the teachers when I was at school. Although it still doesn't stop me from having idealised ideas that it would be different for me and that I'd be passing on knowledge for the younger generation and that I could make a difference. But anyway, I honnestly have no idea what I would like to do if I get a history degree, but this does not really bother me because I have no idea about half of the jobs out there. The only thing I can do is sit back and let it happen.
Christmas is creeping up on us, but it doesn't feel christmasy to me. I do not really know why, I expect it is because I have not done any christmas shopping or maybe it is because there are no decorations up in my house yet. Once again I really do hate just how comercial christmas has become, I know I was saying exactly the same thing last year, and I will probably be saying exactly the same next year. But it is true. An excelent way to emphasise my point is Band Aid. The original was a symbol of the fact that people still truely cared about poverty in the world. I watched a documentary on it a little while ago and Bob Geldorf had tears in his eyes as he was talking about a documentary about poverty in Africa which inspired him to do something about it. He said "I just knew I had to do something, things like record sales and all that crap just went out of the window". That is true human emotion. Now, 20 years later the only reason people are doing this is because of the publicity, especially Joss Stone... Annoying bint that she is.
On the plus side college ends for the holidays next friday, then I get 2 weeks of freeeeeeeeedom! In which I get to revise for exams in January, woooooo! I also have my driving test in the begining of January, failing things is fun. Ah well, life goes on hey?
